If you’d like member groups to reach out to you with the right opportunities, this is the one step we strongly recommend: fill out your Volunteer Interest profile. It tells group admins what you’re great at, how much time you have, and the kinds of roles you want—so their searches surface you as a strong match.

At a glance

  1. Register or Log In (top-right).
  2. Go to My Profile → Volunteer Interest.
  3. Fill in your interests, availability, format, skills, and preferences.
  4. Submit and keep the confirmation email for your records.

Group admins use these same fields to search for volunteers (i.e. you!). The clearer your profile, the more likely you’ll get invited to roles that fit.

Who this is for

  • Anyone who wants to volunteer with a GNN member group (designers, writers, event helpers, gardeners, data folks—everyone!).
  • Best for people who want organizations to be able to discover them (in addition to browsing the listings yourself).

  • 2–6 hrs/week
  • 6–10 hrs/week
  • 10+ hrs/week

Tip: Be realistic. It’s better to under-promise and over-deliver.

c. Format Preference

  • Remote
  • In-person
  • Hybrid

d. Skills
Examples: “Canva + basic Figma,” “Instagram Reels + short-form copy,” “WordPress updates,” “Grant research,” “Volunteer coordination,” “Event check-in.”
Tip: Use commas or line breaks—keep it skimmable.

e. Commitment Duration

Tip: If you’re flexible, choose short-term or ongoing.

f. Role Type

Tip: Include any constraints (e.g., “Weeknights after 6 PM only.”) by adding it to the “Tell us more” field at the end.

h.  Communication Preference

Email / Phone call (if comfortable) / Text / DM via GNN website

i. Hobbies / Interests

Add a human touch—“urban gardening,” “photography,” “cycling.”

j. LinkedIn

Paste a URL if you have one.

j. Tell Us More

A sentence or two on what motivates you or the impact you want to have.

Step 4 — Submit & Save Your Confirmation

  • Click Submit.
  • You’ll see an on-screen confirmation and receive a confirmation email with a copy of your responses.

Tip: Keep that email. It’s handy for quick edits later.

Example: A Strong, Skimmable Profile

  • Interest Areas: Social Media & Design; Content Creation; Community Outreach
  • Availability: 2–6 hrs/week
  • Format: Remote or Hybrid
  • Skills: Canva, basic Figma, short-form video (Reels), copywriting, WordPress updates
  • Commitment: Short-term (6–8 weeks), open to ongoing after trial
  • Role Type: Support / Action-Oriented
  • Time Availability: Weeknights (6–9 PM), Sat mornings
  • Communication: Email preferred
  • LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/yourname
  • Tell Us More: “I’d love to help a local group boost event awareness and volunteer sign-ups.”

Why this works: it’s concise, specific, and maps neatly to the filters that group admins use.

Pro Tips to Get Noticed

  • Be clear, not generic. “Instagram Reels + captions” beats “social media.”
  • List your tools. Canva, Mailchimp, Excel/Sheets, WordPress, etc.
  • State your time box. “2–3 hrs/wk, Wed evenings” helps admins plan.
  • Update as you go. Availability changes—edit your profile anytime.
