On May 29, 2025, we hosted a special virtual event to celebrate and showcase the newly redesigned Green Neighbours Network (GNN) website — and it was wonderful to see so many of you there!  If you couldn’t make it, don’t worry — we’ve got you covered. You can now watch the full recording below and explore all the new features at your own pace.

What We Covered

The session began with a warm welcome from Zenaida. I then shared some background and context about why we redesigned the site, highlighting the feedback and insights gathered during our 2024 UX research. From there, I guided attendees through a live demo of the new website, showcasing the key features that were shaped directly by the community’s input.

Here’s what we explored together:

  • A Tour of the New Homepage: Including key sections, intuitive navigation, and a thoughtful land acknowledgment.
  • Member Registration & Profiles: Learn how to sign up, personalize your profile, and connect with others in our growing climate community.
  • Group Pages & Updates: Member groups can now manage their profiles, post updates, add volunteer opportunities, and even upload their own banner images.
  • Event Submission Made Easy: Discover how to post your events directly to the new and improved GNN Events Calendar — and reach more people across the city.
  • Interactive Forums & Networking Tools: We demoed how to join conversations, message friends, and follow groups using our brand-new forum and networking tools.
  • How to Share Feedback: As the site is still in Beta, your insights are essential! Share your feedback by sending us an email at webmaster@gnntoronto.ca.

Throughout the walkthrough, we focused on how these new features address the community’s biggest needs: better navigation, smarter search, easier collaboration, and more ways to stay connected. We closed the session with a Q&A with the help of Mehal and Lee, and asked participants to complete a short survey about their first impressions.

Thank You for Your Input

Your insights and ideas have been essential to every step of this redesign. From early user interviews to survey responses and prototype testing—this platform is a reflection of your lived experience and your hopes for a more connected, climate-conscious Toronto.

What’s Next?

The site is still in Beta, which means it’s a work in progress—and your continued input will help us refine it. We’ll be posting a series of how-to blogs in the coming weeks to guide you through features like submitting events, using the forum, and managing your group page.

Until then, we encourage you to log in, explore, and start making the most of your member tools.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

We respectfully acknowledge this land and the history of the many Indigenous peoples who have lived here for millennia. The meeting place of Toronto - from the Kanienʼkéha (Mohawk) word Tkaronto - remains the home of many Indigenous people from across Turtle Island. We are grateful to be here together to share and to care for the land – Chi Miigwetch.
