Description

Green Neighbours 21 is a grassroots, action-oriented group of people who live in and around St Clair Ave W (roughly from St Clair West subway to Dufferin) and beyond. We learn about issues and then work together on solutions to climate change and other environmental problems. We have been around since 2007, and among many other activities, founded EcoFair at the Barns and helped launch Repair Café Toronto.

Currently, our group has been working on:

  • Energy efficiency in buildings and neighbourhoods including home energy retrofits and district energy and heat planning
  • Promoting connection with each other and with nature including walks in Cedarvale and Nordheimer Ravines, tracing lost rivers in the neighbourhood, and walks in Wychwood Park
  • Promoting active transportation with group bicycle trips in our area and beyond
  • Political action including sponsoring environmental debates during elections

We welcome new members and new ideas on ways we can help to make our neighbourhood more sustainable. Possibilities include initiatives to promote waste reduction, enhance biodiversity, and promote greater community involvement in environmental action. Please join us!

LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

We respectfully acknowledge this land and the history of the many Indigenous peoples who have lived here for millennia. The meeting place of Toronto - from the Kanienʼkéha (Mohawk) word Tkaronto - remains the home of many Indigenous people from across Turtle Island. We are grateful to be here together to share and to care for the land – Chi Miigwetch.
