Description

Green 13 brings together residents of the west side of Ward 4 (former Ward 13) in Toronto. We are concerned about the impact humans are having on our climate and environment, and are therefore working together for a sustainable future.

Green 13 incorporated under the name “Green 13 Environmental Group (Toronto)”, with the following purposes:

  • to increase public awareness about climate change and other environmental concerns
  • to encourage public discourse on sustainability
  • to advocate for policy and behavioural change in relation to climate and environmental issues
  • to collaborate with others to develop and/or implement programs to reduce our community’s ecological footprint
  • to build resilience in our community

Our projects have included: piloting residential carbon-footprinting, promoting energy efficiency, envisioning Junction Geo project (district geoexchange network); urban forest (Junction Adopt-a-Street-Tree, Tree-for-Me, Save Our Ash…); building an extreme weather preparedness network… We have organized many events with environmental topics (Earth Hour walks, monthly screenings/talks, workshops, panels, debates and more).

LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

We respectfully acknowledge this land and the history of the many Indigenous peoples who have lived here for millennia. The meeting place of Toronto - from the Kanienʼkéha (Mohawk) word Tkaronto - remains the home of many Indigenous people from across Turtle Island. We are grateful to be here together to share and to care for the land – Chi Miigwetch.
