Looking for the right helping hands? In addition to posting roles, group admins can search GNN’s pool of registered members who’ve filled out their Volunteer Interest profile. The Find Volunteer tab lets you filter by interests, skills, availability, location, and more—so you can quickly spot great matches and reach out.

Use the Find Volunteer tab

  1. Go to Your Group Page → Find Volunteer.
  1. Apply filters to narrow your search:

Available filters

a. Interest Area / Category
Pick one or more focus areas that fit your role (e.g., Event Support, Social Media & Design, Research & Advocacy). This is the quickest way to get relevant matches.

b. Availability
Filter by the time a volunteer can offer: Flexible / One-time / Up to 2 hrs/week / 2–6 hrs/week / 4–6 hrs/month / 6+ hrs/week. Choose what fits your need right now.

c. Postal Code or Nearest Major Intersection
Looking for nearby help? Enter a postal code (e.g., M4C 1X3) or an intersection (e.g., Danforth & Coxwell) to surface local volunteers for in-person roles.

d. Riding
Target volunteers within a specific electoral riding if your project is riding-based.

e. City
Limit results to a city/municipality (e.g., Toronto, Scarborough, North York, Etobicoke).

f. Format Preference

Match by how the work happens: In-person, Remote, or Flexible/Hybrid. Great for remote-friendly tasks like comms or research.

g. Skills

Type skills separated by commas (e.g., Canva, copywriting, grant writing, WordPress, photography). Results match what volunteers listed on their profiles.

h.  Commitment Duration

Filter by time span: One-time / Short-term (3–6 months) / Ongoing / Flexible. Useful for campaigns vs. continuing roles.

i. Role Type

Choose the level of responsibility: Leadership / Support / Advisory / Flexible. Helps you find coordinators vs. doers vs. advisors.

j. Time Availability

When are they free? Select Weekdays / Weekends / Morning / Afternoon / Other. Use Other if evenings or variable hours work.

  1. Review the result cards, then click into a member’s profile to see their Volunteer Interest details.
  2. Reach out using the preferred contact method they provided.

Tips for faster matches

  • Start with 2–3 filters, then refine.
  • If results are thin, widen location or availability.
  • Save promising profiles and message kindly with clear next steps.
